Alina Simon provides psychoeducational and life counselling for adults living with borderline personality disorder and for their families. Drawing on the General Psychiatric Management (GPM) approach, she helps clients to navigate the complex world of emotions and human relationships and to build a steadier, more balanced life.

After graduating in Philosophy from the University of Debrecen, she earned a diploma in Health Promotion and Mental Health from Semmelweis University in 2009. She further deepened her professional expertise at Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital by completing training in General Psychiatric Management for Borderline Personality Disorder – a pioneering approach in Hungary. She is currently undertaking the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Consultant training programme of the Hungarian Association for Behavioural, Cognitive and Schema Therapies (VIKOTE).

Earlier in her career she worked as a counsellor at the National Institute for Drug Prevention and in the fields of child protection and refugee support, gaining extensive experience with traumatised young people in both Hungary and Belgium. Having spent a total of nine years abroad, she also provides consultations in English alongside her native Hungarian.

Alina Simon places great value on continually expanding her professional knowledge for the benefit of her clients. She has completed numerous further training courses, including psycho-oncology and relationship-focused programmes, among them the Hold Me Tight! couples counselling and group leadership training organised by ICEEFT and the Emotionally Focused Couple and Family Therapy Foundation, as well as a workshop preparing her to work with neurodiverse couples. She also integrates mindfulness-based stress-management techniques learned at KU Leuven University in Belgium.

At Panorama, she focuses on deepening self-awareness, strengthening emotional regulation, increasing awareness of relationship patterns, and supporting the management of crises. Instead of a psychotherapeutic setting, her consultations offer an educational, supportive and practice-oriented framework, which can be particularly helpful for people waiting to begin psychotherapy.

Main areas of expertise

  • psychoeducational and life counselling for individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and for their families

‘I am the first mental-health professional in Hungary to provide structured psychoeducation and life counselling for people with borderline personality disorder and their families, based on the General Psychiatric Management (GPM) approach. My aim is to ensure that no one has to struggle alone while waiting for psychotherapy.

I am committed to offering a supportive and collaborative space with genuine, constructive feedback, so that clients can better understand their own patterns, mobilise their resources, and develop skills in stress management, relationships and self-regulation. At the heart of mental well-being is self-respect and the ability to treat one another kindly. With the right information, support and understanding, people with BPD can build a steadier, more fulfilling and happier life – one that, to quote one of my professional role models, Marsha Linehan, is ‘a life worth living’. This vision guides my work.’
