Pediatric pulmonology has always been an important medical specialty for parents with young children, when both acute and chronic respiratory illnesses have emerged. Recently, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of the work of the pediatric pulmonologist has become even more significant.
We draw your attention to the fact that the process of the respiratory function testing (spirometry) constitutes an increased risk factor regarding COVID infection! Therefore, a COVID PCR testing is required prior to the procedure for unvaccinated patients. In the case of twice-vaccinated patients (older children), the procedure can be performed after an antigen rapid test only. An antigen rapid test can also be done at our clinic before the procedure. However, it usually takes at least 24 hours between the PCR test sampling and the receipt of the result, so it is advisable to perform this test at least one day before the pulmonology visit.
In the case of examinations with increased risk factors in relation to COVID epidemic, our clinic follows the current health regulations that have come into force owing to the pandemic!
The pediatric pulmonologist – having vast amount of knowledge and experience – awaits those who turn to her at the Panoráma Polyclinic.
The medical background of our clinic greatly facilitates the full medical check-up of children and then the rapid and accurate establishment of diagnosis, because if necessary we can perform both laboratory tests and examinations belonging to other medical specialties.

Childhood asthma – recognition and treatment are important
In childhood asthma, chronic inflammation develops in the mucous membranes of the bronchial system. In the mucosa so-called inflammatory cells build up and the smooth muscle that is the integral part of small and large bronchi contracts and causes a convulsive condition in the bronchi which manifest itself in difficulty breathing. In such case, the parent may observe wheezing that requires immediate medication.
Symptoms of childhood asthma:
- Wheezing, difficulty breathing
- Gasping (agonal) breathing
- Wheezing occurring during physical load
- Reduced load capacity
- Cough that does not stop
- Feeling of chest pressure
It is important to know that the proper use of modern medicines for the treatment of asthma can significantly reduce or even eliminate these symptoms, but it is essential that the pediatric pulmonologist see the patients if they have any complaints. This is especially crucial because asthmatic symptoms are not always caused by childhood asthma: respiratory development disorder, chronic bronchitis or bronchodilatation may be the causes of the problem which can definitely be diagnosed accurately by the pediatric pulmonologist only!
