Panoráma Polyclinic considers it particularly important that the patients affected by addiction and their relatives receive full care, therefore it created a form of service based on the collaboration of specialists operating in the field of addiction, involving a psychiatrist, an addictologist, a clinical psychologist and an addiction consultant.
From this addiction team, the addiction consultant plans the recovery steps together with the patient and controls the process, if requested. Based on a motivational interview, it helps the patient to come to the best decisions according to the current frame of mind. The consultant thinks in terms of a system approach, helps the patient to apply a personalized treatment plan and keeps contact with various related professions and partner institutions.
The consultant directs the patient’s sobriety work towards concrete, actionable steps by jointly setting goals, facilitating responsibility and solution-oriented decisions. He/she monitors the recovery process, helps to prevent addiction relapse and conducts relatives and family consultations if needed.
As the disease is worsening, addictive behaviour and adaptation to it constitute increasing challenge to family members, or even to the workmates. They often feel helpless as they face a deteriorating condition of their family member or colleague despite their continuous support and assistance. If at this moment the addict cannot be taken into the treatment process, the addiction consultant will conduct a family or workplace face-to-face, problem sensitivity training. During this training, by taking into consideration the difficulties and expectations of the participants in relation to the situation, the consultant builds up with them the effective form and content elements of the discussion with the aim of getting the addict to the therapy.
It is clear from the above details that scope of addiction consultation has a „here and now” focus, with an emphasis on what can be done in the given situation. With the help of a clinical psychologist the aim of this consultation is to promote a lasting commitment to sobriety work, which gives an opportunity to overcome and process any losses, traumas, personality development barriers that may happen during the process.
As part of the complex care package, the patient meets with a specialist (addictologist) to assess the condition and the would-be stabilization, and then with an addiction consultant (5-10 times depending on the purpose) in order to consolidate the quitting motivation and to strenghten sobriety. If necessary, the psychotherapeutic process can then start with the assistance of a clinical psychologist or psychotherapist.
