As a child psychiatrist, Dr Péter Garas deals with the examination and therapy of child and adolescent psychiatric problems - primarily ADHD, mood disorders, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders - and as a psychotherapist candidate he also deals with adult psychotherapy at Panoráma Polyclinic.
He graduated from the Semmelweis University in Budapest, in 2009 and started his residency training in psychiatry, during which he soon became committed to child and adolescent psychiatry. Then he worked at the Vadaskert Hospital for 9 years, while also working in the fields of pedagogy and child protection. Along with his activity related to child and adolescent psychiatric assessments, he began to study family- and couples therapy, as well as individual psychotherapy with a dynamic approach. In addition to his work as a specialist he is a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Semmelweis University.
In addition to individual adult psychotherapy, he also works as a member of the paediatric ADHD team at Panoráma Polyclinic. (Due to its structure, the clinic does not diagnose and treat autism spectrum disorder!) gyermek-ADHD-team tagjaként is tevékenykedik. (Autizmus spektrumzavar diagnosztikáját, kezelését a szakrendelő – felépítéséből adódóan – nem vállalja!)
‘In my therapeutic practice, I apply a primarily dynamic or systems approach to the problem. I think that in the therapeutic atmosphere, the relationship is of special significance, where any moment can appear that can open the door to change and development. The system approach also extends the individual focus to the family, the couple, where the dynamics of the system members in interdependent relationships can create different symptoms.’
